Picture of The Maize Maze at Abersoch

What's the attraction?

A combination of 'doing something different' but at the same time an opportunity to show Melanie, a college friend, and her two children, Joshua, 10, and Molly, six, the beautiful coast of North Wales.

The main attraction was the challenge in a mystical themed Magical Maize Maze. The objective is to follow the quiz trail by using your 'magic' map reading skills to unravel the spell-binding clues to solve the Magic Potion Puzzle.

This is how you qualify to become a 'Wizard Master.' It's an amazing challenge and really makes you think, especially how to read a map.

What's on offer?

A different family adventure filled with challenges, 'fabulous' and 'frustrating' were the comments from the children. All were full of enthusiasm with mum as leader, Tom second in command. It was difficult until we got the hang of following the clues. There were a few 'surprises' but two hours later we emerged exhausted but successful.

A mug of coffee was perfect as the children enjoyed the Abracadabra Activity Park which included Witch's Cauldron Trampolines, Hocus Pocus Football Game, Mumbo Jumbo Mini Maze, Merlin's Pedal Kart Tracks and Sorcerer's Giant Slides, a simple but effective adventure playground.

How did you get there?

It is on Lln Peninsula at Cim Farm, Bwlchtocyn, Abersoch. Taking the A499 from Pwllheli to Abersoch we travelled along Abersoch High Street following signs for Sarn Bach. Go through crossroads towards Cilan for 400 yards taking the first left signposted for Bwlchtocyn. Look out for signs for Abersoch Maize Maze.

How long did you stay?

The maize took about two hours with another hour to relax in the park. Tom was in tears as we dragged him away from the football game - a good sign that it was a good day out.

Did you take a brolly?

This is definitely an activity NOT to do in the rain. August sunshine was perfect.

What did you do there?

Concentration was needed in the maze, but working as a team, we were spellbound. Catrin had great fun holding a flag pole in case we got lost. We got hot and bothered at times having forgotten to take drinks with us which would have helped.

The activity park was perfect for all ages.

How much did it cost you?

It cost £20 for a family ticket for up to six people.

How about food and drink?

Hot and cold drinks (£1 each) were available at the Witch's Brew Refreshment Bar with snacks including beef and lamb burgers (£2.75) and ice-creams.

Are there any shops?

No. The children were too busy to think of toys and games to buy.

Is it ok/safe for kids?

It's on agricultural land which can be uneven. There are strict safety rules for the maze and for the activity park. Supervision for children under 14 is beneficial.

Can people with disabilities get around?

There are paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs but it would be hard work. Also, rain can make pathways muddy and difficult for wheels. Toilet facilities are basic, not designed to accommodate wheelchairs. There are no baby changing facilities.

What was the best bit?

A real sense of satisfaction when we completed the maze and found the magic word. Hearing Tom, Colin and Joshua screaming with laughter as they raced around the course on pedal karts was wonderful. Mel's best bit was the wonderful unique views of Abersoch Bay.

Opening times?

Open today and tomorrow 10:30 am to 7 pm (last entry 6pm)
