Bryngwna Inn, Caeathro

3 out of 5
THE essence of a thriving village pub is that it remains unspoilt, a social centre for its locals, but still able to offer a warm welcome to visitors. The Bryngwna scores on all three points. Read Full Review Here

Sun Inn, Llanengan

3 out of 5

This is Llanengan in deepest rural Llyn, more of an overgrown hamlet than a village in many respects. The twittering of the birds only has the tinkling of silver streams to compete with for much of the time, even given that brash, noisy and thoroughly alien Abersoch is barely more than five minutes away by tractor. Chelsea tractor, that is.

We had a great stay at this pub. The pub is under new management and they offered us a nice (b&B) room for a fair price. The people are very friendly and helpfull and the food is great. The atmosphere is warm and they really make you feel welcome! We sure want to come back here again!

Local welsh reared meats!Seafood !I had a family meal there and what we got was Minted mash (Instant mash with mint sauce!)Local sausage !(Local from the kitchen!) And thats where the dog Sam eats!Food a total joke.Avoid eating there until it changes hands, Which I hear will be very soon. Will try again with the new owners who I have here are local.A great pub but with the wrong people in it at the moment.they will be missed ! (not)

Presuming the place has not changed since I came here on a canal-boat holiday through Wales, the food was delicious - their Minted Lamb in particular was mouth-wateringly tender and juicy and we came back the next day so the rest of the family could have a full serving each and not just nick bits of mine!

Used to stay in the area between the mid eighties and mid nineties, and it was the pub of choice. It was all £.s.d. then, even the fruit machine which had a slot for a 10 shilling piece!

Posted By: Jeff Simmons   On: 07/02/10
I'm amazed! I recall as if it were yesterday visiting the Douglas around about 1975 and being told in £.s.d what I owed. I was much surprised even then, with decimalistion being 4 years previously . What year did they continue to use old money up to? I have memories of the Douglas that date back to 1970, it always did have a personal character sorely lacking in modern establishments. Interesting to see the snooker table is still there.

We have stayed here on a regular basis for many years now and have never had any of the above problems! The rooms have always been very clean and comfy, and have recently been refurbished to a high standard. Breakfasts are huge and the choice is extensive, you might not have room for lunch! the pub exudes atmosphere and Tuesday night music sessions are legendary. Oh our rooms did have fire alarms!

Posted By: M Howerth   On: 10/02/09
Visiting as an ex-pat from Australia, spent two nights at the Fleece, very dissapointed. Room was not adequately serviced, linen was of poor quality and the room generally run down. Sleep was almost impossible on Friday & Saturday nights owing to the manager entertaining his friends into the wee small hours of the morning. No smoke alarms, fire extinguishers or fire escape noted.

A good quiet pub. I stop on a regular basis and find it quiet at most times (exception between 7 and 9 Saturday night). The Vale of Conwy Ale is a must try. Probably the least Chavvy place on earth. Young people do exist in the area and may be there on Saturday nights. Avoid if you have a grudge against the young.

Posted By: Kevin   On: 22/09/08
We were passing through this village on a Saturday evening and stopped to pick up some snacks from the bar on a long journey. The car park was full of teenage yobs, stashing alcohol in plastic bags under trees before entering the pub to try and get served. Inside was sweaty and dirty and on stepping inside my wife (who is chinese) immediately was met by a barrage of racist abuse. AVOID THIS PAROCHIAL CHAVVY HELL HOLE LIKE THE PLAGUE
