Masters Of The Musicals, Rhyl Pavilion Theatre
It’s not often you get to marry a nun – especially a singing one – and then get to stage musicals with her. But it’s just one chapter in the varied career of Ed O’Driscoll, who lands in Rhyl next week with his show Masters of the Musicals. The show, which celebrates the best Broadway and the West End has to offer, with a band plus a selection of numbers from some of the greatest musicals, is now in its 10th year. It’s at Rhyl’s Pavilion Theatre on Saturday May 9. Ed said: "The show is going great and its our 10th anniversary touring with the show. there’s a lovely team of guys who just love being on stage and is made up of some great musicians such as John Langley." Ed has been working in the theatre for as long as he can remember. After training in performing arts he began his professional life on board the SS Romantica as assistant cruise director. Back on dry land he began his work in theatre back stage at the Grand in Wolverhampton. From there, he also worked a summer season on the Sound of Music and within 12 months had married one of the nuns, Lynn. Together Ed and Lynn founded the cabaret trio Three’s Company and began touring shows across the country until Calibre Productions was born in 1999. Masters of the Musicals is co-produced by Ed and Lynn, who also have other shows on the go – Beyond Broadway, Absolute Swing and A Night at the Opera. They’re also about to take Dad’s Army Marches On and Porridge on tour.and has already received acclaim on its tour. "The show’s been very well received. "We like to think that even though Woolworths has gone this is a pick and mix from the best of West End and Broadway. "A lot of the audience say they do not expect to laugh as much as they do." And Ed is certainly looking forward to taking to the stage at the Pavilion Theatre. He said: "Its lovely there in Rhyl – we’ve been three or four times there with the show. "Audiences on the night can expect to hear some fantastic songs and a selection of numbers from the West End. "The show can be a chance for people to maybe forget the credit crunch for a while and have a good time. "The musical continues to excite young and old in equal measures, encouraging us to sing, dance and tell stories. "In many ways it fulfills the fundamental needs, readily identified in most societies." The cast of West End performers include John Langley, who took a starring role in the international tour of Mamma Mia, alongside Winnie Clarke. They’ll be performing favourites from hits such as Grease, Mamma Mia, Blood Brothers, Wicked and Les Miserables. Masters Of The Musicals, Rhyl Pavilion Theatre, Saturday, 9 May.
