Caernarfon shopping centre
A NEW shopping centre in Caernarfon opened its doors for the first time yesterday.
Celtica Retail Centre, at Doc Fictoria, boasts a number of different outlets, mainly selling goods on a Welsh or Celtic theme, and a coffee shop.
Yesterday's opening was a "softly softly" affair, mainly because it should have been held a few weeks earlier.
A further "official" opening will be held in the near future.
Town centre manager Debbie Thomas, who deals with commercial leases at the Doc, said: "A lot of the goods are locally-made. We are still taking in more stock which will fill the centre over the next couple of weeks."
Yesterday staff and tills were already in place selling goods to first-time customers.
Among the items on display were slate and copper work, Gemwaith Rhiannon, jewellery from Tregaron clothes by Avoca from Ireland and enamel paintings by artist Karen Jones and even craft paper from a Welsh company made from sheep droppings!
Among the companies at Celtica will be Peters Fudge, Four Seasons, Halen Môn, Blâs ar Fwyd, Calon Lân, Deri Môn, Purple Moose, Conwy Brewery, Gorau Glas, Aballu Truffles, Castle Bakery, Siwgr a Sbeis, The Pudding Company, South Caernarfon Creameries, Karen Jones Glass & Enamel Artwork, Momamor, Gwdihw, Through Welsh Eyes, Anne Smith Design, Creative Mountains, Pethau Da, Celtic Herbal, Rhiannon Jewellery, Sheep Poo Paper, Welsh Royal Crystal, Avoca Clothing, Gomer Books, Sain.
