Opening Doors

ARTISTS will be converging on Aberystwyth next month for the Opening Doors festival.

Organised every two years by  the town’s Arad Goch theatre company, it’s aimed at a young audience.

This festival, the only one of its kind in Wales,  will see performers from around the world present shows, from theatre to dance, music, puppetry, poetry and film as well as seminars and social events.

Performers from Wales include Theatr Iolo, Run Ragged Productions, Mess Up The Mess, Franwen, Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, Y Beirdd and Arad Goch.

Among the overseas companies taking part are 16 Rue De Plaisance from France, plus Consol Theatre Gelsenkirchen from Germany, who will be performing  comedy show Eagle Calling Hawk, about two boys having a sleepover.

Nico and Martin from Ireland will be performing Instant Orchestra, an interactive piece that invites the audience to join the-120 piece orchestra. And Branar,  also from Ireland, will present  two stories through the use of puppetry. Norrdans from Sweden  have a comical dance piece, plus there’s Ballet Nimba,  who will combine traditional Guinean dance and music in their production Saiyama and Payapaya.

The theme for this year’s festival, which  has been awarded the Cultural Olympics Inspire Mark, is sport.
