Two foot Gauge – Two Great Railways – Too Good to Miss!
Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways - two unique narrow gauge railways (both operated by the Ffestiniog Railway Company) with a fascinating past and an even more exciting future. We are currently re-instating the long-lost railway link between Caernarfon and Porthmadog. By 2009 we hope that you will be able to travel from Caernarfon right through to Blaenau Ffestiniog – almost 40 miles of narrow-gauge steam!

Takes you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Our historic trains climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round horseshoe bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or even tunnelling through it.
