Woodfest Wales returns again to St.Asaph on 30, 31 May, 1 June 2008 to coincide with the end of the school half term.

On offer will be three days of events including Chainsaw Carving Competitions, Lumberjack Competitions, Axe Racing, Pole Climbing, Horse Logging Competitions, Birds of Prey Displays and much more.

23 chainsaw artists - will be competing to carve giant wooden sculptures, all of which will be available to purchase at our charity auction on Sunday.

We will have an Arts Zone, Education Zone, a Craft Fair, Food Fair and Childrens play areas and rides, there really is something for everyone at Woodfest Wales!

The showpiece of the festival - ‘Carve Cymru’ brings together 23 of the finest chainsaw artists from the UK and overseas in a competition to create fantastic wooden sculptures.

The carvers arrive before the festival starts to choose their wood and commence carving. By Friday the sculptures are starting to take shape and the skills of these artists can be appreciated as their work progresses to a finished piece/pieces ready for auction to the general public on Sunday.

Logging Competitions - The competitions will take place continually over the 3 days. Axes, cross cut saws and chainsaws are all used to great effect as the teams and individuals display and compete in timber felling and timber handling.

Demonstrations of Traditional Timber Framed Building in hardwood and softwood - fascinating to observe the craftsmen carrying out this ancient building method that is enjoying a huge revival for new buildings, extensions, conservatories, garages, garden structures etc.

Displays of Woodcraft skills and products can be seen all over the festival fields, we have even included a marquee full of original trades from all over the UK which will be displaying & selling woodcrafts of all types, from turning blanks to elaborate ornaments, from pyrography to bonsai, plenty to keep everyone interested.

A range of traditional craftsmen and craftswomen will be working and displaying their products at various locations around the showground, these include - Willow Weaving, Stick Making, Wood Turning, Pole Lathes, Carving, Chair Making, Furniture Making, Coracle Making, Toy Making, Log Cabin Construction, Wooden Doors, Windows and Staircases, Musical Instruments, Hardwood & Softwood Flooring etc.

A Food Hall packed with produce from local food and drink producers - including wine, cider, toffee, olives, cakes, cheese, organic lamb etc.

Pole Climbing - Towering over the Logging arena are our two NEW 80ft poles. Displays and competitions by foresters and timber professionals take place over the three days of the festival.

Novice climbers might take one to two minutes to climb the poles, whilst experienced climbers can virtually run up the poles in around 10-12 seconds!

The Forestry & Arboriculture Zone will be packed with professional timber equipment, training agencies and services.

The Northern Federation of Woodturners participate in the festival with a huge display of beautiful turned wood objects and also incude wood turning advice and demonstrations

Horse Logging competitions will take place in one of the central events arenas. Last year we had 6 horses competing in a simulated forest environment, this year we are hoping for 8-10.

Birds of Prey Displays - Twice each day there will be a display of flying by a range of birds of prey. This popular event draws a large crowd, keen to see the amazing flying skills of the birds. The birds can be seen at any time near to the Education Zone.
